Student leadership

What is Student Leadership?

The FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) Student Leader program is designed to empower and equip students to lead their peers in faith and fellowship through sports. Here are some key aspects of the program:

  • Leadership Development: Student leaders receive training and resources to develop their leadership skills, helping them to guide their peers in both athletic and spiritual contexts.

  • Faith Integration: The program encourages students to integrate their Christian faith into their athletic lives, promoting values such as integrity, teamwork, and perseverance.

  • Community Building: Student leaders facilitate events, Bible studies, and group activities that foster a sense of community among athletes, creating a supportive environment where students can grow in their faith together.

  • Mentorship: Student leaders often serve as role models for younger athletes, guiding them in their spiritual journeys and encouraging them to pursue their faith actively.

  • Impact: By leading within their schools and sports teams, FCA Student Leaders aim to make a positive impact on their peers and the wider community, sharing the message of Christ through their actions and words.

Overall, being an FCA Student Leader is about combining sports and faith to inspire and uplift others in their spiritual journeys.

Who Can Become a SMS Student Leader?

Among other things, the Student Leader Program is open to any student who regularly attends the SMS FCA Huddle who is in the 7th grade or above. A few other requirements are:

  1. Must go through the LiT (Leaders in Training) Program
  2. Must attend Church/Youth Group Regularly
  3. Must have a servant's heart and be willing to serve the Lord and students

What is LiT?

LiT stands for Leader in Training and is the first step to becoming an SMS Student Leader. This program is typically offered after Christmas Break.

The LiT program is designed to help students develop essential leadership skills, equipping them with abilities in communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, and decision-making. It serves as the foundational step toward becoming an FCA Student Leader at SMS.

We will meet every Tuesday morning before school from 6:45 to 8:10 AM, starting on March 24, 2026.

As 1 Timothy 4:12 reminds us, "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young; instead, set an example for the believers in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity." We are excited to guide our students on their leadership journey! LiT stands for Leader in Training.

How to Apply to Be in LiT?

Applications to be in LiT open on February 27, 2026. The deadline to apply is March 20, 2026.

Our first meeting is on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. Doors open at 6:45, and all students must be in the building by 7:00 AM.
